Cleaning Metal Parts on a Banjo

Can someone recommend a good cleaner to remove the 'arm tarnish' from
the metal parts. Hopefully I can restore the original luster. The
banjo is only 8 moths old and tarnish is already rearing it's ugly
head.

For normal cleanup of metal parts, I use Blitz Metal Care polishing cloths
marketed for wind instruments, available at your local music store, safe for
nickel, chrome, gold plated. For severe tarnish, I use "chrome and mag wheel
cleaner" from the local auto parts store, but don't use it on gold plated
instruments.

Simichrome--Get it at Motorcycle or Bicycle shops. I've used it for
(Yipe!) 30 years now.

Wow! Maybe it's time to break down and buy a new tube?

(Seriously, either Simichrome or Flitz will do the job equally well. Don't
use either one on gold plating though!)

I recommended Blitz, not Flitz. Specifically, use Blitz #303 Metal Care.
The package says, "Can safely be used on gold, silver, brass, and plated
instruments. Non-Toxic". Two of my students have gold plated banjos and use
these cloths with no ill effects. They also do a good job on normal cleaning
of nickel and chrome banjo parts and they work well on the cover plate of my
dobro, too. "Caution, do not use on lacquered finishes. For lacquered
finishes use Blitz Gloss Care". For those who have not heard of Blitz, they
are a well known brand among wind instrument musicians, established 1912.
No, I don't work for them, have merely had excellent results with their
products.

Flitz is a metal polish like Simichrome. It's not a cloth.
