Howdy,

Have any of you tried the Elite banjo head?

If so, what did you think?

Thanks,

I haven't, but I would mention that Elite is another brand name for
Fiberskyn and Rennaisance.

Hi Lynn,

I don't know about the Renaissance, but you are not correct about the
Fiberskyn...

The Elite is a similar color, but is uniformly translucent. The
Fiberskyn has a "texture" to it and looks and feels rather different.

All the best,

Stew-Mac's brand name in fact. They call Fiberskyn "Elite" and
Renaissance "Elite Amber." All are made by, of course, Remo.

Hi Bill,

If course, I might be wrong about this, but...

I thought that the Fiberskyn had "veiny" threads or some such randomly
molded through the head giving it a "real skin" sort of look.

Is that correct?

The Elite has none of that "texture."

Thanks,

I have a Fiberskyn head that I took off a tenor I bought. It's fairly
translucent and has white marks and texturing on it that look like folds
or creases. From the front it looks like and has the texture of real
skin. The back looks the same, but is smooth like the back of any other
banjo head. It makes tenor banjos sound far mellower than they ought
to. :-)

Hi Erik,

Thanks for telling me that...

That was what I had remembered, and I was starting to think that I was
losing my few remaining marbles.

All the best,

Not sure if this was straightened out or not. Stew-Mac sells both the Remo
Fiberskyn and Remo Renaissance heads under the Elite brand name. The
Fiberskyn has the threads (Tyvek?) while the Renaissance is a translucent
amber color.

Well actually RENAISSANCE is a registered trademark of Remo Inc.
